Program Overview
This position is a part of Henry Street Settlement’s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division providing a continuum of services from early childhood education through adult workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Our employment programs are derived from proven models to provide holistic employment, education, and financial counseling services to low-income New Yorkers. The ESOL Program includes classes in ESOL Basics, ESOL Job Readiness, Citizenship Preparation, ESOL Literacy and ESOL Civics.
Job Summary
As an instructor in our ESOL Basics program, you will work with low intermediate-level participants to develop English language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and to help them reach other identified goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- At least one year of experience teaching English to adult speakers of other languages.
- A certified administrator of the Best Plus test is strongly desired.
- Ability to connect deeply with a diverse immigrant/adult learning population, including special sensitivity to those who have experienced trauma.
- Experience required using a Smartboard, Zoom, and Google Classroom.
Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans focused on the 4 appropriate for in-person and online learners
- Teach a hybrid ESOL class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
- Help administer Best Plus 3.0 tests to all students at the end of each session to determine progress/gains.
- Maintain records of student attendance, make monthly progress notes for each student, and help produce reports as needed.
