Job Description

Summary: The Camp Nurse will provide appropriate assessment and oversee treatment of medical problems in the camp student community. The Camp Nurse will review all medical files on students to ensure they take their medication at the appropriate times and are always available in the event of an emergency. Shifts are typically 8 to 12 hours for the duration of the camps. The Camp Nurse may be required to stay in the dorm. The Camp Nurse will present on clinical protocols and universal precautions at the orientation. The Camp Nurse will assist in the development of medical policies and procedures and additional documents, as needed. Also, the Camp Nurse will treat students for medical issues, and help prevent physical issues and disease. This is a pool position that will only be accessed if needed. Preferred Qualifications

Clinical experience in a related medical/clinical setting or in a public school system. Job Duties: 80% - Patient Care: Provide appropriate assessment and treatment of medical problems in the residential program. Securely store and administer camper's prescribed medications. Maintain appropriate universal precautions at all times in handling patient specimens and any potentially contaminated materials. Strive for personal excellence in the specific skills and knowledge required for professional expertise. Responsible for professional, first-aid medical treatment of students. Responsible for early detection of physical problems and health evaluations. Maintains clinical records. Communicate with staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students. 10% - Other Clinical Nursing Responsibilities: Review health evaluation forms of entering students for completeness. Abide by OSHA Standards to ensure continued compliance with the mandated BBP regulations. 5% - Patient Education: Provide pertinent education for students’ current condition and general health concerns in a manner that facilitates understanding. 5% - Interpersonal/Team Responsibilities: Demonstrates high standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. Demonstrates a positive, open-minded, “can-do” attitude and willingness/enthusiasm to effect change. Supports a collaborative, professional work environment.
