Definition
The instructor will serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness and wellness, and are responsible for ensuring that safety of the members is not compromised. A group fitness instructor will act as a role model and resource for all patrons and staff.
Essential Duties and Requirements
Must have current certifications including adult CPR/AED.
Must be dependable and reliable.
- Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas.
- Sets up and monitors class equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition.
- Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies.
- Distributes handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answers questions from participants after each session; assists in performing follow up and communication with participants as required.
- Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports when needed.
- Considerable knowledge of the problems involved in the leadership of a group.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position; promote and organize recreation programs; give individualized instruction to participants, enforce safety precautions and give first aid in the event of a mishap; establish and maintain good working relationships with participants, associates and the public.
Physical Demands
Position requires employee to continuously sit and hear; frequently talk; and occasionally stand, balance, reach with hands and arms, and smell. Employee must have the physical ability to perform physical exercise. Special vision requirements: Distance, peripheral, and ability to adjust focus.
